In the radiance of the moonlight.
Tucked and wrapped in woven linen.
Tossing and Turning: Treacherous Torment.
The murmurs whispering vehemently.
The sun rays creep above the skylight.
The monsters retreat and cower within me.
I lay motionless and still within these four walls.
Barricaded behind a closed door and steel windows.
In hordes, they flock and overpower me.
Hard pressed against the cold steel slab.
Like tons of brick and. mortar on my back.
In harrowing laughter and twisted mockery.
Frozen, adorned with a crown of icicles.
Gasping for every precious breath of air I can inhale.
Squirming, flinching, hands reaching out.
No one to pull me from underneath the rubble.
Surmounting whatever ounce of strength left.
I toss away the covers and brace to face the elements.
Like a ball and chain, they walk in stride and are faithful.
‘Together till the end,’ they murmur, giggling and whistling
Right foot, left foot – the rhythm goes.
Shaking a hand here, waving another there.
Faking a laugh, forcing a smile, cheer in tears.
A perfect façade if there ever was.
Swiping my key card, I clock in at the hour.
Check in, meet deadlines; never-ending bustle.
Deadlines! It’s a race against the hourglass.
All in a day’s work, check out at the nick of time.
I seek the warmth of the fireplace.
Or the chilling breeze of the midnight hour.
All to escape this black void of nothings.
To be free from claws and fangs etched in my skin.
The bottles stacking up with every passing hour.
Heaving and sighing, a dark cloud envelopes.
The cacophonous booming and beating of the drum.
The chaotic embrace of the calm before the storm.
Shutting the door behind and switching the light on.
The silhouettes make their timely and perfect appearance.
Under the moonlight they thrive and fangs arise.
The witching and waking hour is almost upon us again!
Tired, torn and teary-eyed,
Not an ounce of energy left.
I lay motionless in surrender
And usher the moments of terror.
